Installation guide
From DMG to first fold.
The current download is named Lid Plane. It lives in your menu bar, so setup looks a little different from a normal windowed app.
Install MacFold
- Download and open the DMG supplied through Polar.
- Drag Lid Plane into Applications.
- Open the installed app from Applications.
- Look for the angle reading or laptop icon in the menu bar.
- Click it to turn on the effect.
- Approve Screen Recording when macOS asks.
- If macOS asks for a restart, reopen the same installed copy.
- Lower the lid below the selected activation angle.
If macOS cannot verify the developer
Attempt to open the app normally first. If macOS says the developer cannot be verified, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, choose Open Anyway and confirm. Never disable Gatekeeper or run a security-bypass Terminal command. If macOS reports malware or says the app will damage your computer, stop and contact support.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see an app window
That’s expected. Lid Plane runs in the menu bar rather than keeping a normal window or Dock icon open.
Simulation works, but moving the lid does not
Check that the built-in display is active, the effect is enabled, and your MacBook exposes a readable lid-angle sensor. Sensor availability varies by model.
The lid angle is missing or does not change
Quit and reopen the installed copy from Applications. If the reading remains absent, the model may not expose the required sensor.
Screen Recording permission is stuck
In System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, turn access off and back on for Lid Plane, then reopen the same installed app if prompted.
The effect disappears after I move the lid
Auto-anchor may be setting a new resting position. Reopen the menu-bar control and adjust the activation angle behavior.
Protected video is blank
Some protected video cannot be captured by ScreenCaptureKit and may appear blank while the effect is active.
My external monitor is not transformed
MacFold transforms the live built-in desktop. External displays are not transformed.
Uninstall MacFold
Quit Lid Plane from the menu bar, move it from Applications to the Trash, and optionally remove its Screen Recording permission in System Settings.
