Your desktop stays on your Mac.

This policy explains what MacFold processes in the Mac app, on this website and when you purchase or contact support.

Overview

Last updated: September 14, 2026

The MacFold app is designed to perform its visual effect locally. It does not require an account, analytics service or network connection. The website, checkout and support email involve the limited data described below.

Screen frames and Screen Recording

MacFold uses macOS Screen Recording permission to obtain a live view of the built-in display through ScreenCaptureKit. Frames remain in memory only long enough to be transformed and displayed by the app. They are not recorded to disk, added to a video, sent to us or uploaded to another service.

Lid-angle data and local preferences

On supported MacBooks, MacFold reads the hinge angle as a numeric value so it can render the effect. That reading is processed on the Mac and is not transmitted to us. Effect settings and preferences may be saved locally by macOS so they remain available between launches.

The app does not request audio, camera, Accessibility or Input Monitoring access. It does not include an account system, advertising SDK or analytics SDK, and the current app makes no network connection.

Purchases through Polar

Polar Software, Inc. operates the checkout as merchant of record and authorized reseller. Polar collects and processes the information needed to complete the transaction, which may include your name, email address, billing details, country, IP address, tax information and payment information.

We may receive order and fulfillment information from Polar, such as your email address, the product purchased, transaction identifiers and order status, so we can deliver the download and provide support. We do not receive your complete payment-card number. Polar handles its data under its privacy policy and buyer terms.

This website

MacFold uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate visits, page views, referral sources, device and browser categories, countries and page-performance metrics such as Core Web Vitals. Cloudflare describes this service as privacy-first and says it does not use the beacon to track individual visitors across customer websites or collect or use visitors' personal data. Learn more in Cloudflare's Web Analytics documentation. MacFold does not use advertising analytics or advertising cookies.

The hosting provider may also process standard operational logs, such as IP addresses, browser and device information, request times, requested pages and error information, to deliver, secure and maintain the site.

Support messages

If you email support, we receive your email address and anything you choose to include in the message. We use that information to answer your request, diagnose issues and maintain an appropriate support record. Please do not send passwords, full payment-card numbers or unrelated sensitive information.

Sharing and retention

We do not sell personal information. Information may be handled by service providers needed to run the website, checkout and email support, or disclosed when required by law, to protect legal rights or to prevent fraud and abuse.

Purchase and support records are kept only for as long as reasonably needed for delivery, support, fraud prevention, accounting and legal obligations. Local app preferences remain on your Mac until you remove them through macOS or erase the relevant app data.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction or deletion of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us using the address below. For data controlled directly by Polar, submit the request to Polar.

Policy changes

We may update this policy if the app, website or legal requirements change. The date at the top of the policy will identify the current version.
